Preparing for the Summer

— When I was eight I'd had pneumonia so I spent the summer up in the Catskills. But we never really otherwise traveled into the country. I had never been particularly aware of fields. I guess they told us what kind of clothes to bring. They did emphasize that we were college students so that I guess the implication: if you do bad you're going to be expelled from college. The aura was we were under the aegis of Brooklyn College.

— I remember some preparatory meetings where they told us what to bring and what not to bring. They gave us printed literature and the literature said, among other things, that we could pick an average of six bushels a day. And that became a big joke.
