Frances Koral

After graduating from Brooklyn College in 1946, Frances Koral worked as an investigator for the New York City Department of Welfare. In 1947 she married Richard koral, and moved to Chapel Hill, NC where she worked as a nursery school teacher and clerk in a grocery store. With her husband she helped organize a night school literacy program for members of the African American community.

After moving back to New York, Frances gave birth to a son in 1950 and a daughter in 1958. She later attended Teachers College for a masters degree in education, and became an elementary school teacher for the NYC Board of Education for 25 years. Since retiring in 1987, she has been volunteering at an evening pre-GED program of Literacy Partners.
